Lee Roy Selmon blends the benefits of a football scholarship within his family with volunteering in the community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. In the three years that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week throughout his college years. Following college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers played an all-pro three times before beginning a business career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the Ten of America's top young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6-2. When he was playing for college, he was the head coach of the 1975 team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
