Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946 at Locust Ridge Tenn. She had a family of 12 kids. The vivid imagination of her mother was a great way to get away from the harsh realities of everyday life. Before she could write or read, she was creating her own music. She bought her first guitar at the age of 8 and began her singing career on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. She released her debut album in the same calendar year on Gold Band Records, a small independent label. While she was in school, she had established a name for herself locally. But her dream was to be more widely recognized. The day after she graduated in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer to perform on his show syndicated by him in the years prior to this.
