Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won awards for her writing, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency an online platform to educate about gender roles within popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to dispel the myths that are associated with females in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted harassment against women and the other minorities of individuals in the internet environment. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age Sarkeesian was intrigued by questions of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009 she created her Feminist Frequency web site. An ambitious woman was planning to launch a web series that would examine gender representation within games. But, she discovered herself at the center of a harassment online campaign. However, this did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. As a result of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture stories.
